Things To Do

We are in the centre of the village and close to the shops and restaurants. Lake Windermere is a couple of minutes walk away. From the pier there are various boat trips around the lake. Rowing boats and self-drive motor boats can be hired nearby. Bowness has a wealth of pubs, restaurants and shops to suit individual tastes.

Bowness is a perfect location for walks, and Jan will be happy to suggest suitable places.

Steam enthusiasts

Steam enthusiasts will be keen to visit the steam museum, the steam yaught Gondola, the Lakeside & Haverthwaite railway, and the Ravenglass and Eskdale steam railway.

Literary Followers

Literary followers can visit the two homes of William Wordsworth at Dove Cottage, Grasmere, Rydal Mount near Ambleside, and Brantwood, the home of John Ruskin at Coniston.

Horseriding is available at the end of our road at Lakeland Equestrian Centre.

Cycling is particularly popular with numerous tracks and cycle ways and very good mountain bike trails in Grizedale forest park, near Hawkshead.

Stately Homes

Within the area are several stately homes, some privately owned, such as Muncaster Castle, Levens Hall and Holker Hall. The National Trust has numerous areas of parkland and places of interest, such as Sizergh Castle, near Kendal, Townend house, Troutbeck, and Beatrix Potters house at Hill top, Near Sawrey.

Many other attractions include the Pencil museum at Keswick, South Lakes Wild Animal Park at Dalton in Furness, the World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness (almost next door to us), and the Aquarium of the Lakes at Lakeside.
